Satellite pictureSince 1873 the temperature of the North Sea is measured, but the length of current warm period is unique. With an average of 0.13°C every year temperature rises, 1.7 degree since 1993.

Fishes and mussels adapt to changed conditions and move from Bay of Biscay into the North Sea. Harald Asmus, marine biologist from Alfred Wegener Institute said in an interview with German press-agency DPA: “Unless the warming of the North Sea stops, this process (of changing fish stocks) will continue, ” and “Certain fish types, like the plaice fish, plunge into deeper and colder waters, while other types like cod are drawn still further north”.
